Abbey of Monte Oliveto
Surronded by the magnificient landscape of "Crete Senesi"
In the area south of Siena lies a unique and magnificent landscape: Crete Senesi ( just 10km from Hotel Ai Tufi, which can be visited by car). The Abbey of Monte Oliveto overlooks the Crete Senesi.
It is a large monastic complex still active today that was founded by Bernardo Tolomei in 1313. Particularly worth visiting are the church containing pictorial masterpieces by Sodoma, the wooden choir by Fra' Giovanni da Verona, and the ancient library and pharmacy.
