Monteriggioni
A medieval village surrounded by a perfectly preserved city wall
The small town of Monteriggioni is only 10 km from Hotel Ai Tufi. The medieval village is enclosed in beautiful and well-preserved circular walls.
It was founded by the Sienese in 1203 as an outpost against Florence, the walls were hoisted in 1213-1219 and then restored in 1260-70 after the Florentine siege of 1244.
Inside the walls there is a special atmosphere, a plunge into the past, celebrated especially every year with the medieval festival held every summer. In the center of the town square is the Roman-Gothic-style church.
