Piazza del Campo
Discover the beauty of Siena's most famous square

Thanks to its distinctive shell shape and brick color, Piazza del Campo is absolutely unmistakable. The square is known throughout the world because, twice a year, on July 2 and August 16, the famous Palio di Siena, the most anticipated event for all the Sienese, comes to life there. In the Piazza you can admire the copy of the Fonte Gaia, made of Carrara marble.
Among the palaces facing Piazza del Campo, don't miss the Palazzo Comunale and the Torre del Mangia. The imposing brick and marble Palazzo Comunale houses the city's Museo Civico with several masterpieces by Sienese artists, including Simone Martini's beautiful Maestà and Ambrogio Lorenzetti's Good and Bad Government.
